hairstyles are important for many women. Well groomed hair can accentuate facial features and smooth out imperfections, while an incorrectly chosen hairstyle or hair color can spoil even the brightest looks and accentuate unwanted features.
has collected a number of examples of typical styling flaws that age a person. We have also included some recommendations to prevent this from happening.
1-Your hairstyle is out of fashion
It’s easy to fall into a routine, but sticking to the same hairstyle year after year can end up making you look older than you are. Adam Bogucki, owner of Chicago’s Lumination Salon, recommends changing your hairstyle at least once every 10 years. “I’m not one of those people who think you should have short hair just because you’re a certain age,” he says. But if you’ve had the same haircut for a lifetime, it’s likely to make you look older.”
2-Your bangs are too square
Rather than a thick, square fringe, Adam Bogucki suggests framing your face with a light, tapered fringe. “I have a lot of clients who are always worried about horizontal lines on their forehead and always opt for a heavy fringe, but this one can make it look super severe.”
3-Your cut hardens your face
To keep the look of youth, avoid square pieces, as Adam Boguki suggests. Not only do these hairstyles look old-fashioned, but they also fall flat on the face. Instead, he suggests layered haircuts that open your face and make you look younger.
4-Your dye is too dark
Hair dyes can be very useful for camouflaging the signs of aging when gray hair begins to show, but Adam Bogucki cautions against the temptation to go for too dark a dye that can age you. Instead, he recommends creating variations in your hair by alternating different shades with strands that will bring out and enhance your face.
5-You don’t maintain your cut
With age, hair becomes dry and brittle, which can lead to split ends that tend to age you. Adam Bogucki recommends frequent cuts to refresh your ends and give your hair a healthy look. The amount of time between cuts varies depending on your hair type and texture – drier hair will require more care – but in general, you should go to the hairdresser every six to eight weeks.
6-Your hair is too stiff
Hairspray is a great product to keep your hairstyle in place. But too much hairspray can also give your hair a “cardboard” look. To preserve the natural suppleness of your strands, Adam Bogucki suggests finding a hairspray that gives a softer result and leaves your hair silkier than cardboard.
